Daily climb

Type the answer most people would give.

Today's 7 prompts, the same for everyone. New climb at midnight UTC.

Noillirk is a free daily word game where the most common answer wins. Read an everyday prompt, type what you think most people would say, and your balloon climbs higher the closer you get to the top of the board. One Daily climb a day, unlimited practice climbs, nothing to install.

What is Noillirk?

Noillirk is a survey-style guessing game that you play in a browser tab. Most quiz games reward the right answer. Noillirk rewards the expected one. When the prompt says “Name a red fruit”, the person who types pomegranate is correct, but the person who types apple climbs faster, because apple is what most people say first.

Each prompt comes with a ranked answer board. The top answer lifts you the furthest, answers near the top still give you a good push, and anything that is not on the board leaves you hanging in the air. Your points turn into altitude: Kril, the small krill under three balloons on the left of the game, rises past the treetops, through the clouds and, on a perfect climb, into the stratosphere.

The name is “krillion” spelled backwards, a nod to the krill that rides the balloons. The original Noillirk was made by Daily; this site is an independent edition with its own bank of 181 prompts, its own scoring and a few things we always wanted from the game, explained below.

How to play Noillirk

A Daily climb takes about three minutes. The full rules, with examples, are in the how-to-play guide.

  1. 1

    Open today’s Daily climb

Press Start climbing on this page. Everyone gets the same 7 prompts today, and a new set arrives at midnight UTC.

  2. 2

    Read the prompt

Each prompt asks for something ordinary, such as “Name a pizza topping” or “Name something people lose all the time”.

  3. 3

Type the answer most people would give

You have 20 seconds and up to 3 guesses. The first guess that is on the board locks in, so lead with your most obvious idea.

  4. 4

    Watch the board and climb

The full board appears with your answer highlighted. The higher it ranks, the more points you score and the higher Kril the krill floats.

  5. 5

    Share your altitude

After the last prompt, share your emoji grid and altitude, see how today’s players did, and come back tomorrow to keep your streak.

Noillirk scoring: how high each answer lifts you

Every point is 20 metres of altitude. Only the position of your answer on the board matters; answering faster does not add points, so use the whole timer when you need it.

The sky changes as you rise. Below 300 m you are at the treetops, low clouds start at 1.5 km, the jet stream at 8 km and the stratosphere at 12 km. A climb of seven top answers ends at 14 km. Only Endless can take Kril higher, towards the edge of space.

Noillirk tips: how to think like the crowd

  • Say the first thing that comes to mind. Your first instinct is usually everyone else’s first instinct too. Second-guessing is how you end up with clever answers that are not on the board.
  • Pick the most famous example. For “Name a famous landmark”, the Eiffel Tower beats Angkor Wat every time.
  • Go general, not specific. People lose “keys”, not “the spare key to the shed”. A short, plain answer matches more of the board.
  • Read the restriction. “Name a green vegetable” is not “Name a vegetable”. Carrot is a fine vegetable and a wasted guess here.
  • Use your three guesses. A miss only costs a guess and a few seconds. If your first answer is not on the board, try the next most obvious one.
  • Commit to one answer. “Apple or cherry” is a hedge and does not count. Choose one.

What makes this edition different

We played every Noillirk site we could find before building this one. Most open with a wall of text and a button that takes you somewhere else. Here the game is the first thing on the page, and these are the other choices we made:

  • Three guesses per prompt. A typo or a near miss should not end your climb. The first answer that is on the board counts.
  • The whole board, every time. After each prompt you see the top nine answers and their points, so you learn what the crowd thinks while you play.
  • Real crowd numbers for the Daily. The results screen shows how many of today’s players found each top answer. We store only counts, never what you typed.
  • Forgiving matching. Plurals, small typos, accents and common alternatives (chips and crisps, fries and french fries) are all recognised.
  • No account, no ads in the game. Your streak lives in your browser, and nothing interrupts a climb.

Noillirk questions, answered

What is Noillirk?

+

Noillirk is a free daily guessing game. Each prompt asks you to name something everyday, and you score by matching the answer most people give rather than a correct or clever one. The more common your answer, the higher your balloon climbs.

Is Noillirk free to play?

+

Yes. Every mode on this site is free, runs in the browser and needs no account or download. Your streak and best scores are kept in your own browser.

When does the Noillirk Daily reset?

+

The Daily changes at 00:00 UTC. Everyone in the world plays the same 7 prompts on the same UTC day, and the countdown on the results screen shows how long is left until the next one.

How does Noillirk decide what “most people” say?

+

Each prompt has a ranked answer board compiled by our editors from the responses people most often give to survey-style questions. It is an estimate of the crowd, not a scientific poll. Typos, plurals and common alternative names for the same answer all count.

Can I play more than one Noillirk game a day?

+

Yes. The Daily is once a day, but Noillirk Unlimited offers Classic climbs of 7 random prompts and an Endless mode with 3 balloons, as often as you like.

Is this the official Noillirk game?

+

No. This is an independent edition inspired by the original Noillirk from Daily (playdaily.org), with its own prompts, scoring, artwork and modes. It is not affiliated with Daily.
